Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)

Provided by registered dietitians, MNT involves in-depth, individualized nutrition assessment using the Nutrition Care Process to manage disease.

  • An intensive, focused, and comprehensive nutrition therapy service.

  • Relies heavily on follow-up to provide repeated reinforcement to aid with behavior change.

  • Establishes goals, a care plan, and interventions.

  • Plans for follow-up over multiple visits to assist with behavioral and lifestyle changes relative to each individual’s nutrition problems and medical condition or disease(s).

 

Nutrition Education

Reinforcement of basic or essential nutrition-related knowledge.

  • Creates positive attitudes toward good nutrition and physical activity, and provides motivation for improved lifestyle practices.

  • Provides adequate knowledge and skills necessary for critical thinking regarding diet and health empowering individuals to make healthy food choices.

  • Assists the individual to identify resources for continuing access to healthy food and scientifically-sound nutrition information.
